New SkyHD operating system & EPG
« Thread Started on Apr 2, 2009, 4:43pm »

Sky's new EPG and operating system was released to some Thomson Sky HD receivers last night. On model number 4E3004, the EPG software version goes up to sky+8.3.2.
This is a significant revision to the ageing EPG.

Amongst the many changes are:
- recordings of the same programme are now grouped in stacks in the planner. The total disc space used by the stack is shown
- the guide is in HD and widescreen
- a new feature for users with only one dish input is introduced. The 'Single feed mode' allows just one cable from the dish to be used, with the loss of Anytime functions. One side effect of this is that the signal readout now shows the quality and transponder ID on the channel being viewed, rather than always the default transponder as previously. This makes manual tuning and dish set up much easier
- a 'mini TV' in the Sky guide which shows the current channel viewed. This can be turned off to make more space, but the sound remains in the background. The previous background music has gone.
- pressing blue button once reverts to the channel viewed before the current one
- radio removed from the main TV guide- it now has its own section in the top menu
- search facility
- ITV HD can now be added in 'other channels'
- programmes originated in HD can be highlighted
- number of minutes into a programme has been running
- if the receiver has been connected to only one dish cable, it will show 'no satellite signal' and cannot be used until single feed mode is switched on. The EPG will load, however, with one input. Changing mode requires a system re- boot.

The new EPG will only be released to HD boxes, and will roll out to Sky's entire fleet before the summer. It is not necessary to subscribe to Sky's HD services to get the new software.

Hi!

I received the latest EPG update last night which I'm impressed with.

One question though, how do I get ITV HD? In a previous post it states you do this via "add" other channels but what frequency, symbol and FEC should I use?

Cheers,

Martin

To add ITV HD manually, go to the 'Add Channels' menu in 'Services' and use the following settings: Frequency: 11.427 Polarity: H FEC: 2/3 Symbol rate: 27500, add channel '10510'. View via the 'Other Channels' menu.
