Don't forget that the new Freesat services can be received on an Astra (Sky) dish without the expense of a brand new dish.
To get Freesat on my new integrated Panasonic TV I just transferred over one connection lead from my Sky+ box.

A valid point to make when buying a new Freesat receiver and the sales-idiot insists that you will need to pay extra for installation of a new dish because "a $ly satellite dish will not work".

Not just Sky dishes either. Any dish already receiving Astra 2D, Sky will work with Freesat. Just plug in the existing cable into the new Freesat box and it will work. Easy.
If you have a dual or quad LNB then you can run both the Sky box and the Freesat box on the same dish at the same time.
| Villach: Invacom Quad QDF-031 C120 flange LNB, CM feedhorn, Pace 2600C1, Humax Foxsat HDR+HD, 1.5m Gilbertini dish. Reception is very good during daytime. Better than 50% quality, 80% strength on Humax meters. After midnight I can get some blocking on ITV3 etc, quality reduced to 40%. I can loose some channels during storms. It really is as easy as that : plug in a Freesat receiver to your existing dish which was installed by Sky. Just bear in mind that a free to air receiver such as the FortecStar Passion above is really for satellite enthusiasts only. The average non- enthusiast will soon find that the need to re- scan whenever channels change frequency or parameters is a real pain. Freesat is as easy as Sky to set up and use. If you buy the Freesat PVR you will have all you're looking for, albeit at a higher initial outlay.
| In Spain: Prodelin 1.8m offset, Invacom QDF-031/ChannelMaster feedhorn. Lacuna/Wolsey V3 meter. In UK: Pace 2600CI, Humax Freesat HDR, Thomson SKY+ HD |

many thanks for that, much appreciated the main reason i am looking at that particular box is i want hd,may as well make the most of this hd tv and also the pvr function,i already have a 300gb usb hdd which is not being used i assume the fortecstar is a good bit of kit then? maplin do sell a cheaper freesat box at £109.99 with the pvr but the specs don't seem as good,i'd prefer to pay a little extra and get a good one now than regret buying the cheaper option later on many thanks again

The forum software splits the link up. You have to copy and paste the complete link (from the two lines) to get the right place.

Personally if I had the choice I would go for Freesat. FTA receivers such as Fortec Passion are really for satellite hobbyists- not for the average telly viewer. At the moment the Freesat PVR is expensive so it would be better to wait for prices to fall once supply is no longer an issue.
